Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in Russia ahead of Zenit St Petersburg move

Branislav Ivanovic has landed in Russia as he prepares to complete a free transfer from Chelsea to Zenit St Petersburg, but the Serbia international appears likely to be the only deadline-day departure from Stamford Bridge in January.

The 32-year-old, who fell out of favour at Chelsea following Antonio Conte's decision to shift to a 3-4-3 system in September, did not join the rest of the Blues squad on their trip to Liverpool and was instead spotted at St Petersburg airport on Tuesday afternoon.

He is expected to join Zenit on a two-and-a-half-year contract with an option for a further year, bringing to an end a glittering nine-year spell at Stamford Bridge in which he made 377 appearances in all competitions and won every major domestic and European trophy with the Blues.

Asmir Begovic, however, is unlikely to follow Ivanovic out of Chelsea on deadline day despite voicing his "desperate" desire for first-team football at Bournemouth after Saturday's 4-0 win over Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round.

Conte never wavered in his stance that Begovic could only be granted his move if a replacement goalkeeper was signed and Chelsea's pursuit of their top target, Celtic No. 1 Craig Gordon, has stalled after two failed bids.

Branislav Ivanovic has made 240 Premier League starts for Chelsea.

Nathan Ake's recall from loan at Bournemouth represents the only significant January reinforcement of Conte's Premier League title-chasing squad, and Bosnia-Herzegovina international defender Sead Kolasinac is unlikely to follow after Schalke confirmed they had dismissed an enquiry from Chelsea.

Reports in Italy claim that Inter winger Jonathan Biabiany has turned down a loan move to Chelsea as he waits on a possible permanent transfer to the Chinese Super League, but Conte will at least be able to call upon Kenedy and attacking midfielder Charly Musonda for the rest of the season.

Both youngsters have trained at Cobham throughout January after being recalled from unsuccessful loan spells at Watford and Real Betis respectively, with Kenedy coming on as a second-half substitute against Brentford.

The Brazilian's appearance means he cannot play for another club this season under FIFA transfer rules, while earlier this month Conte said he would be happy with the opportunity to work with Musonda in first-team training until the summer.

The pair have travelled with Begovic and the rest of the Chelsea squad to Merseyside for Tuesday's Premier League clash with Liverpool, along with academy prospect Ola Aina.
