Qatar player gets doping ban
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Reuters) - Qatar midfielder Jafal Rashid has been banned for nine months after failing a doping test, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said on Tuesday.
It had initially handed out an 18-month ban but it was cut following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
Rashid tested positive for a stimulant after a match between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates at the Gulf Cup in January. The AFC did not disclose the name of the drug.
CAS upheld a fine of £5,000 imposed on Rashid by the AFC.
His suspension is the latest blow to Qatar coach Philippe Troussier, whose bid to recruit Brazilian players Ailton, Dede and Leandro earlier this year was thwarted by FIFA.
