Stoke City optimistic of landing Joe Allen from Liverpool - sources

Joe Allen made eight Premier League starts last night season.

Stoke City are confident of securing a deal for Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen after agreeing a fee for his services, sources close to the Potteries club have told ESPN FC.

Stoke have agreed a fee in the region of £13 million for Allen who was one of the stars of Wales' Euro 2016 campaign being named in the Team of the Tournament.

Allen's future at Liverpool has been the subject of speculation with the player entering the final year of his contract at Anfield and no talks over a new deal having taken place.

Allen started eight Premier League games for Liverpool last season with the 26-year-old unable to secure a regular place in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI.

The summer arrival of Marko Grujic and the impending signing of Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle has increased competition for places in Liverpool's midfield and Klopp is ready to let Allen leave for the right price.

Allen, who is still on holiday after Euro 2016, has been given the green light to hold talks with Stoke boss Mark Hughes about a possible move to the club.

Sources close to Stoke have told ESPN FC that Hughes is confident he can persuade his fellow Welshman to leave Liverpool with the opportunity of regular first-team football next season at Stoke.

Swansea are also keen to re-signing Allen after selling him to Liverpool in 2012 and it remains to be seen if they will match Stoke's offer.
