Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem extends Rangers loan deal

Gedion Zelalem made the choice to represent America.

Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem has extended his loan deal with Rangers until the end of the season after helping the Scottish club climb to the top of the Scottish second division.

Zelalem, 18, has made 15 appearances for Rangers so far -- including 12 in the league -- and set up two goals on his debut in the League Cup.

The American under-23 international is seen as one of the most talented members of Arsenal's youth academy, having joined the Gunners from Hertha Berlin two years ago.

However, he has only made two appearances for the Arsenal first team despite impressing in preseason games and was sent to Rangers to gain more experience.

The playmaker is known for his vision and passing ability, but has yet to score a goal in his senior career. He said in November that he hopes to end that drought during his time at the Ibrox club.

"I know I need to add goals to my game if I want to be the player I know I can be, and I need more of an end product too," Zelalem said. "I get told that by the gaffer [Rangers manager Mark Warburton], and I absolutely agree. I want to improve in every game and every day in training, and he keeps my feet on the ground and helps me along."

Rangers have won the Scottish league a record 54 times, but were demoted to the fourth tier after being liquidated in 2012.

Meanwhile, Arsenal handed 18-year-old full-back Tafari Moore a new deal on Wednesday, while 17-year-old defender Tolaji Bola signed his first professional contract with the Gunners.

The club said: "Everyone at Arsenal looks forward to the continued progression of Tafari and Tolaji in the seasons ahead."
