Ajax split with Machlas
AMSTERDAM, July 31 (Reuters) - Greek international striker Nikos Machlas and Ajax Amsterdam have split, the Dutch club announced on Thursday.
'By mutual consent, Ajax and Nikos Machlas have terminated their contract. The termination takes effect immediately,' Ajax said in a statement, adding that the player could now join another club on a free transfer.
Ajax loaned Machlas, 30, to Sevilla in January and the Spanish first division club had an option to sign him on a three-year contract at the end of the season.
Before joining Ajax in 1999, he played for OFI Crete and Vitesse Arnhem.
