Man United's Victor Valdes keen to stay in Premier League - agent

Victor Valdes hopes to stay in the Premier League if Manchester United will allow him to leave in January, his agent has said.

Valdes, whose contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer, has been frozen out by manager Louis van Gaal, who said the goalkeeper had no future at Old Trafford because he refused to play for United's reserve team.

The former Barcelona keeper, who has only made two appearances for the club, has not been granted a squad number and has been linked with Newcastle, whose first-choice goalkeeper Tim Krul is set to miss the rest of the season through injury

Victor Valdes has been told he has no future at Manchester United.

His representative, Gines Carvajal, has told Catalan newspaper Sport that the 33-year-old is eager to remain in England, even if he is open to playing in other countries.

"We are relying on Manchester United letting Victor go," Carvajal said. "The Premier League is very attractive and Valdes want to stay because he has adapted perfectly to England, but we are not closing the door to any options.

"There are still two months until the transfer window opens and there is nothing concrete, but the intention is to leave Manchester United."

Sources told ESPN FC last month that United were open to the idea of cancelling Valdes' contract but only if he joined a club outside the Premier League

United manager Van Gaal has preferred to use first-choice David De Gea and summer signing Sergio Romero instead of Valdes, while youngster Sam Johnstone has also been put on the bench ahead of the Spaniard.
