Rickie Lambert completes move to West Brom after year at Liverpool

West Brom have signed striker Rickie Lambert from Liverpool in a £3 million deal.

The striker, who has 11 England caps, signed a two-year contract at The Hawthorns on Friday.

Lambert, wearing the No. 17 shirt, went straight into the Albion squad for Friday's preseason friendly at League Two side Bristol Rovers, one of his former clubs.

He made an ideal start to his West Brom career, opening the scoring with a deflected goal in the 23rd minute and adding West Brom's third goal just after half-time.

He vacates Liverpool's No. 9 jersey, which is set to be taken by new Anfield arrival Christian Benteke, signed from Aston Villa on July 22.

West Brom coach Tony Pulis told his club's website: "Rickie is a good, strong, solid player who is a great character, good in the dressing room and good on the pitch.

"We are very pleased to have him on board. He's a player of great pedigree and we look forward to integrating him into our squad."

Lambert, 33, achieved a lifelong ambition when he signed for Liverpool, the club he supported as a boy, from Southampton for £4m in June 2014.

But he made only 12 starts last season, and acknowledged the need to move in order to play regular football.

"Everybody at the club wishes Rickie all the best for the future," a Liverpool statement said.
