Darmstadt sign Luca Caldirola on loan from Werder Bremen

Italian defender Luca Caldirola has made the move from Werder Bremen to Bundesliga newcomers Darmstadt on a one-year loan.

The 24-year-old former Inter Milan full-back does not figure in the plans of Bremen coach Viktor Skrypnyk, who selected him only in his first game in charge last December -- a 4-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Since that game, in which Caldirola picked up a yellow card to earn a one-game suspension, the Italian spent the rest of the season on the bench.

He still has two years left to run on his contract in northern Germany but will now spend one of those years with Darmstadt, who were promoted to the top flight last season.

He has already undergone a medical and becomes the Lilies' third summer signing after Konstantin Rausch and Mario Vrancic.
