Marseille sign ex-Sochaux keeper Yohann Pele

Yohann Pele, who was unable to play for three years, spent last season in Ligue 2 with Sochaux.

Marseille have announced the signing of former Sochaux goalkeeper Yohann Pele.

Pele, 32, joins on a free transfer as backup for current Marseille No. 1 Steve Mandanda.

Pele had spent three years away from football after being diagnosed with a bilateral pulmonary embolism while playing for Toulouse in 2010.

After receiving the all-clear, he returned to football in January 2014 with Sochaux -- then in Ligue 1 -- and played 49 games in 18 months with the club before his exit.
