Rasmus Elm to resume career with Kalmar FF after CSKA Moscow exit

Rasmus Elm has played for Sweden 39 times, scoring four goals.

Sweden international Rasmus Elm has returned to Kalmar FF in his homeland after a stomach illness prompted an exit from CSKA Moscow.

Elm, 26, had been suffering with a chronic illness since the start of the season and CSKA Moscow president Yevgeny Giner told Bobsoccer in Russia last month that the club was "categorically against" the idea of the midfielder resuming his career as he could "become disabled."

He terminated his contract with CSKA at the start of the year and has since been training with Kalmar, the club at which he began his career, and it was announced on Tuesday that he had agreed agreed an 18-month contract with the Swedish club.

"I'm happy to be back at Kalmar FF," he told the club's official website. "Of course, I had wanted to return in different circumstances, but I see this as a good opportunity to get back to my true level with a club and in an environment I can thrive in.

"First and foremost, my focus is on making sure I'm completely healthy and building myself back up again in peace."
