Nabil Fekir 'would leave Lyon for Arsenal, but not Manchester City'

Nabil Fekir's father has told Le Parisien his son will only leave Lyon for Arsenal, adding that the attacking midfielder would not sign for a club like Manchester City if he was not going to play regularly.

Fekir, 21, has stepped in to cover admirably this season with Clement Grenier and Yoann Gourcuff blighted by injuries, transforming himself from a bit-part player to first-choice regular under Hubert Fournier at the Stade de Gerland.

The France under-21 international scored his seventh goal of the league season in Lyon's 5-0 defeat of Bordeaux on Sunday, and his displays have seen Fekir's name linked with a number of heavyweight European clubs.

Arsenal have been strongly linked to Fekir, whose father, Mohamed, said a January move to the Emirates for a reported fee around eight million pounds could tempt his son.

"Nabil would like to finish first or second [in Ligue 1] and play Champions League football with Lyon," Fekir Sr. said. "If he leaves, it will be for Arsenal. It is the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger. He will not go to Manchester City to sit on the bench."
