Former Arsenal defender Andre Santos joins FC Goa in Indian Super League

Andre Santos made 33 appearances and scored three goals during his 18-month spell with Arsenal.

Former Arsenal defender Andre Santos has signed for Indian Super League outfit FC Goa.

Santos, 31, was a free agent following his release from Flamengo in his native Brazil last month and he has been lured to Asia by legendary Brazilian coach Zico.

The 24-time capped Brazil left-back, who was part of the Selecao's 2009 Confederations Cup-winning team, has enjoyed the majority of his playing career in his homeland but his most successful spell arguably came at Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Santos will join up with former Arsenal star Robert Pires at FC Goa, while the likes of Nicolas Anelka, Freddie Ljungberg, David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero, Luis Garcia and Joan Capdevila are also ready to test their skills in the inaugural Indian Super League season.

FC Goa get their domestic campaign underway at home to Marco Materazzi's Chennaiyin FC on Oct. 15 where Santos will come up against former international teammate Elano.
