Fabio Borini 'very happy' to stay at Liverpool after QPR deal collapses

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol reviews the players who came in and those who left Anfield this transfer window.

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has declared himself "very happy" to stay at Anfield after a deadline-day transfer to QPR collapsed.

- Delaney: What did we learn on Deadline Day?
- Usher: Liverpool more than just Balotelli

Borini looked set to move to Loftus Road on Monday when the two clubs agreed a deal for an initial fee of 10 million pounds.

But the proposed move fell through, with QPR manager Harry Redknapp telling various media outlets that the striker's wage demands were too high.

Borini responded on Tuesday with a series of cryptic posts on Twitter, in which he insisted that his decision not to leave Liverpool was the right one.

It is unclear who Borini's implicit criticism was aimed at, but his decision to stay on Merseyside is likely to limit severely his chances of regular first-team football this season.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has made clear that the Italy international would play only rarely by staying, with Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli the first-choice forwards and Rickie Lambert considered the main back-up option.

It is the second time this summer that a move for Borini has fallen through after Liverpool agreed a fee to sell him.

A 14 million pound-fee with Sunderland was agreed in July, but the 23-year-old decided against a move to the Stadium of Light.

Reacting to the collapse of QPR's move for Borini, Redknapp told TalkSPORT: "We couldn't get anywhere near [the wages] he was asking for."

Borini's agent, Marco De Marchi, was quoted as telling FcInterNews.it: "Fabio had a great season and he is back at Liverpool. He has proved he can play at a high level.

"He is still under contract with Liverpool for another two years and the club decided not to listen to offers for Fabio to go out on loan this season.

"I can say that I was contacted by very important European clubs that wanted to get the player on loan. Liverpool did not want this and at the last minute [deadline day], the situation with QPR emerged.

"They made an important offer to buy him straight away, but if you consider the player to be important and you make an important offer, then also the player should be treated as an important player.

"Now Fabio will remain at Liverpool and try to convince the coach to give him playing time. I remember that he [Borini] was the first signing the Liverpool coach wanted when he [Rodgers] arrived at Liverpool.

"Fabio is in one of the most important clubs in the world and what will happen in the future we don't know."
