Bayern loan Julian Green to Hamburg, sign Monchengladbach's Sinan Kurt

ESPN FC's Janusz Michallik explains the good and the bad about Julian Green's season-long loan to Hamburg.

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Julian Green has joined Hamburg on a one-year loan deal after signing Sinan Kurt from Borussia Monchengladbach.

- LIVE: Transfer Talk

Green, 19, leaves Munich, who have brought in 18-year-old Kurt from Monchengladbach. Xherdan Shaqiri, however, has been told he is not allowed to leave the Bundesliga champions despite interest from several other clubs.

Green will spend the season at Hamburg to gain first-team experience in the Bundesliga, having struggled for opportunities under Pep Guardiola. The loan deal includes no option to make the deal permanent, according to Hamburger Abendblatt.

The United States international made his debut for Bayern in the Champions League last season, but did not feature in the Bundesliga.

The transfer has the backing of United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who "is very keen on Hamburg," according to Green's father Jerry, who spoke to ESPN FC on Sunday.

"He knows the coach [Mirko Slomka]. He knows the people there. It's a great opportunity for Julian to play some games. He thinks this is going to be a good thing for Julian and the U.S. team," Jerry Green said.

However, Green will not be unveiled at Hamburg on Monday as he joins up with the United States squad ahead of their friendly against Czech Republic on Wednesday.

"He will not be here, because he travels to the national team. But he will arrive within the week," Hamburg CEO Dietmar Beiersdorfer told NDR Sportclub.

On Sunday, Bayern announced that they had reached an agreement with Borussia Monchengladbach for the transfer of Kurt -- a deal the 18-year-old has called "a dream move."

According to kicker, Bayern will pay 1.5 million euros, excluding bonuses, for the Germany under-19 international, who has signed a four-year-deal and is set to take Green's role in the squad.

"He wanted to join Munich and train under Pep Guardiola by all means. It had nothing to do with the money," agent Michael Decker told kicker.

Kurt will join his new teammates following his stint with the Germany under-19 squad this week and will find himself training alongside Shaqiri.

The Switzerland international was linked with a switch away from Bayern throughout the summer, but has not been allowed to leave.

"I would have left to win minutes, but the club has decided that I have to stay," the 22-year-old is quoted as saying by Munchener Merkur.
