Mourinho to give Lukaku a chance

Jose Mourinho will hand Romelu Lukaku an opportunity to prove himself at Chelsea during the club's preseason friendlies before deciding on his future.

- Worrall: Bright Chelsea academy yet to deliver

Lukaku has spent the last two seasons on loan at Everton and West Brom and has only made 15 appearances for Chelsea since joining the club from Anderlecht in 2011.

At the beginning of July, Lukaku revealed he did not want to be loaned out again and called on Chelsea to either show their faith in him or let him leave.

The Belgium international has been linked with a permanent move to Everton, but Mourinho will reportedly block Lukaku's exit from Chelsea as he wants to watch the striker in action before deciding whether to keep or sell the 21-year-old, according to the Mirror.

Key European club fixtures

French Ligue 1 -- Aug. 8
FA Community Shield: Manchester City vs. Arsenal -- Aug. 10
German Super Cup: Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich -- Aug. 13
English Premier League -- Aug. 16
Spanish Super Cup: Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid -- Aug. 19 and 22
Spanish La Liga/German Bundesliga -- Aug. 23
Italian Serie A -- Aug. 30

Chelsea assistant coach Steve Holland said a decision on Lukaku's future is unlikely to be made in the next two weeks.

"The plan is that he will join up with us at some stage during the second week when we are in Holland," he said following Chelsea's 3-2 win over AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Asked whether Lukaku would leave Chelsea before then, Holland said: "That's the situation as I understand it."
