Liverpool turn attention to Loic Remy

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol gives his thoughts on Dan Agger who will be leaving after 8 years with the club.

Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy has emerged as a Liverpool transfer target as manager Brendan Rodgers plans to continue strengthening his squad ahead of a Champions League campaign.

Remy, 27, scored 14 goals for Newcastle United last season during a loan spell at the club.

And Rodgers is weighing up an offer of around eight million pounds for the France international after backing away from a move for Swansea forward Wilfried Bony, sources have told ESPN FC.

Remy, who has also been linked with Arsenal, has returned to parent club QPR, although they are looking to sell on a player who arrived from Marseille in 2013.

The Reds boss is hoping to bolster his attacking options following Luis Suarez's departure to Barcelona, with the move being concluded this week.

And he has cash to spend, with the sale of the Uruguay international bringing in 75 million pounds to the club.

However, Rodgers -- who is also believed to be after Lille attacker Divock Origi, Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren and Swansea left-back Ben Davies -- has insisted there was always a plan to invest heavily in the squad even before talks to sell Suarez gathered momentum at the start of July.

Liverpool have so far spent around 60 million pounds on Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic in preparation for their return to the Champions League.
