Chelsea confirm Filipe Luis agreement

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid confirmed they have reached an agreement over the transfer of left back Filipe Luis.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they have reached an agreement over the transfer of Filipe Luis.

- Transfer Talk: Who is replacing James at Monaco?
- Brewin: World Cup has been kind to Mourinho
- Chelsea complete Diego Costa signing

La Liga champions Atletico stated that the 28-year-old left-back expressed his intentions to leave them at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, and will move to the Premier League club subject to personal terms and the completion of a medical.

A statement on Chelsea's official website read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Filipe Luis.

"The move is subject to the 28-year-old left-back agreeing personal terms."

The Brazil international was an integral figure in Diego Simeone's side as they beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to the Primera Division title last season, and finished runners-up in the Champions League to city rivals Real.

Luis -- who joined from Deportivo La Coruna in 2010 -- played 32 times in La Liga as Atleti conceded just 26 goals on their way to the title, and will join Diego Costa in making the move from the Vicente Calderon to Stamford Bridge this summer.

During his four seasons in Madrid, Luis won the Spanish title, Copa del Rey, Europa League and European Super Cup, with the club stating: "From the club we wish him luck in his new assignment."

The agreement is a further sign of Jose Mourinho looking to bolster his defence ahead of the 2014-15 campaign following the departure of David Luiz to PSG in a 50 million-pound deal, and former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole signing for Roma on a free transfer.

Kurt Zouma -- the 19-year-old centre-back Chelsea bought from St Etienne in January and then immediately loaned back to the French club for the rest of the season -- has been brought back to the first team to add depth to the back line.
