Victor Valdes to force Monaco move

Victor Valdes appears determined to push through his move to the Stade Louis II despite Monaco's reservations.

Victor Valdes' agent says Monaco cannot now back out of their agreement to sign the former Barcelona goalkeeper despite his injury.

Valdes left Barca when his contract ended this summer and has long been expected to join Ligue 1 outfit Monaco ahead of the 2014-15 season.

However, the Spain international tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last March, and is not expected to return to action until October. After a new medical examination was carried out this week, Monaco have decided they no longer wished to go through with the deal.

The keeper's representative, Gines Carvajal, has told AS that it is impossible for the club to now unilaterally back out of a contract that was already agreed.

"We have signed a four-year contract with Monaco," Carvajal said. "We will make them stick to it."

Carvajal was reacting after Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev surprisingly announced that the deal was off.

"We have negotiated with Valdes, but he is injured -- he cannot join us," he said in quotes reported by El Mundo Deportivo. "Our coach has faith in Danijel Subasic, who is our first choice."

Petr Cech's agent also claimed recently that Monaco had been in touch to register their interest in the Chelsea keeper.

Valdes, who left Barca despite the club's efforts to convince him to stay on, had been linked with clubs including Arsenal and Manchester City before committing to join Monaco.

The 32-year-old won six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues during his time at the Camp Nou.
