Huntelaar eyes Schalke extension

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has some business to finish in Brazil before turning his attention to the transfer market.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will speak to Schalke about an extension before commenting on a rumoured switch to Liverpool, the Netherlands striker said on Thursday.

The 30-year-old has one year remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga side, though he could fill in nicely at Anfield should Luis Suarez depart for Barcelona.

However, any discussion about his future will wait until well after the Netherlands' quarterfinal match with Costa Rica on Saturday.

"Regarding the rumours about Liverpool it would only be fair to speak to Schalke first," he told De Telegraaf.

"I've talked with Schalke about an extension for a while. After the World Cup I am having a holiday. Then I will speak to them again.

"With my agent, I now do not talk about the interest from clubs. I focus on the tournament."

Huntelaar scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for Schalke last season.
