Craig Gordon signs for Celtic

Craig Gordon has recovered from a series of injuries.

Scottish Premier League champions Celtic have signed former Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who has not played a first team game in two years.

Former Scotland international Gordon was released by Sunderland after suffering a succession of arm and knee injuries, but is back to full fitness and has signed a two-year deal with the option of a third.

A statement on Celtic's official website said Gordon would "immediately jet out to Austria to join Ronny Deila and his new Celtic teammates at their pre-season base."

Gordon began his career with his hometown club Hearts, and cost Sunderland nine million pounds when he joined them in 2007 -- then a British record fee for a goalkeeper.

He said he was looking forward to resuming his career, telling Sky Sports News: "I've got myself to a position where I can play now, and hopefully that [injury problems] is all behind me and I can forget about it and just concentrate on playing football."

But he said he realised it would be difficult to get into the team, with No. 1 Fraser Forster's consistently fine performances having earned him a place in England's World Cup squad.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
