Claudio Bravo signs for Barcelona

Barcelona have agreed to sign Chile goalkeeper and captain Claudio Bravo from Real Sociedad for a fee of around 12 million euros.

Transfer Talk: Suarez saga; big money for Shaw

Bravo will compete for a first-team spot with fellow new signing Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with previous first choice Victor Valdes and backup Jose Manuel Pinto both having left the club.

The 31-year-old has plenty of La Liga experience from his eight seasons in San Sebastian, and has also impressed for Chile as they progressed to the World Cup round of 16 at Spain's expense and prepare to face host nation Brazil.

The transfer had been widely expected in recent weeks, although talks had appeared to hit a hitch due to the reluctance of Blaugrana midfielder Jonathan Dos Santos to join La Real in part-exchange.

But the deal was announced via a statement on the Barcelona website, with the fee not confirmed but said by both Marca and AS to be in the region of 12 million euros.

"FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad have reached an agreement for the transfer of goalkeeper Claudio Bravo," the Barca statement said. "Claudio Bravo will sign a contract with FC Barcelona for the next four seasons.

"The Chilean becomes the fifth new player for the 2014-15 Barca side, which will be managed by Luis Enrique."

Barca's other new additions ahead of 2014-15 are midfielder Ivan Rakitic, from Sevilla, as well as youngsters Gerard Deulofeu and Rafinha, who are returning after loan spells at Everton and Celta Vigo respectively.

The club are also reported to be interested in signing players including Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu, Fiorentina wide man Juan Cuadrado and Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos.

In what is a busy summer at the Camp Nou, Carles Puyol has retired and taken on a technical role at the club, while Cesc Fabregas has left for Chelsea.

Meanwhile speculation continues to surround the futures of other senior players including Xavi Hernandez, Dani Alves, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro Rodriguez.

Barcelona are also reportedly hopeful of moving on unwanted first team squad members including Alex Song, Cristian Tello, Isaac Cuenca, Bojan and Ibrahim Afellay.
