Mourinho: Casillas should retain place

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has revealed goalkeeper Iker Casillas apologised to the team following their 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands.

Jose Mourinho, who is working for Yahoo! during the World Cup, has said that he feels Iker Casillas should continue as Spain's goalkeeper, despite his night to forget in the 5-1 defeat to Netherlands.

Despite the fact he dropped Casillas in favour of both Adan and Diego Lopez during his time as Real Madrid boss, Mourinho said: "I wouldn't put Iker on the bench."

On how he would handle the situation if he were in Spain coach Vicente del Bosque's position, the Chelsea boss said: "The position of goalkeeper is a very specific one, and I'm not one for changing it just because of a bad game. I only change things because of form, which shows the keeper isn't in the right condition, doesn't have confidence, stability, giving off the feeling it is better to change."

Mourinho added: "Casillas has done great things with Spain, he's a keeper who needs the confidence of his coach, and one bad game, for me, isn't sufficient enough a reason to change a goalkeeper."
