Donovan may watch WC from a bar

Our panel analyses the decision and potential implications of leaving Landon Donovan off of the United States World Cup squad.

Former U.S. national team veteran and LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan said it will be a "game-time decision" as to where he will watch the World Cup.

"Part of me just wants to sit on my couch and sit there and let the emotions go one way or the other so I am not around anybody," Donovan said on the Dan Patrick show last week. "And part of me wants to go to a bar and have a few beers and watch with local soccer fans and experience it all that way. I don't know."

Donovan: "I deserved to go"
• Highlights: Donovan breaks MLS goals record

Donovan, who was outspoken about his disappointment in being left off the U.S.'s final 23-man roster, is the team's all-time leading goalscorer with 57 and has made 53 more appearances in a national team shirt than any other active player.

Donovan broke the Major League Soccer goal record with his 136th goal last week.

"It's time to move on, and I'm now -- after being disappointed -- now I speak to the guys a lot, and they're all excited," Donovan said. "I'm excited to watch and support them. I haven't had a chance in 12 years to support the team as a fan. It's a little bittersweet, but it'll still be fun to watch them and wish them to do well."

Donovan said he was ready in the event of any unfortunate injuries to a U.S. player, but said U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has not told him he could be used as a reserve.

"Let's hope that doesn't happen. Of course, if I get a chance to do it, of course I would. I am ready if called upon," Donovan said.

The U.S. team touched down in Brazil on Monday without coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who is in Miami to scout the Korea Republic-Ghana friendly.
