'Chelsea must pay Costa's release fee'

Gab Marcotti breaks down the details involving Diego Costa's potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has invited Chelsea to pay Diego Costa's release clause if the Premier League side want to sign the striker this summer.

- Transfer Talk: Liverpool say yes they Can, Mueller on board
- Eden Hazard focused solely on World Cup
- David Villa is NYC's first signing

Sources confirmed to ESPN FC on Wednesday that the Spain forward had completed a medical with the Stamford Bridge club ahead of a deal worth a reported 32 million pounds.

La Roja coach Vicente del Bosque has selected Costa for the World Cup squad this summer despite injury concerns after the forward scored 27 goals in La Liga this season as Atletico were crowned domestic champions.

And while Cerezo says that the club will not attempt to stop Costa leaving should he wish to depart, he maintained that Jose Mourinho's club must meet the 25-year-old's release fee.

"Diego has the attributes to be the best striker in the world but we will not oblige anybody to play where they don't want to," AS.com reports Cerezo as saying on Wednesday.

"If he has an agreement with someone let them come to us and tell us. If he wants to leave, they have to come and deposit the amount of his release clause, which I think is around 42 or 43 million euros."

With the Champions League finalists facing a potential exodus this summer as a host of clubs look to sign their top players, Cerezo is confident that the likes of Koke, Diego Godin and Miranda will remain in Diego Simeone's team next season.

"[Koke] is our franchise player and he will stay with us, so that everybody understands perfectly well," he continued. "We are not a selling club, we are a stable club. Koke wants to play for Atletico and he will remain a Rojiblanco. There is nothing else to add.

"It is very difficult to find a pair of central defenders like Godin and Miranda, almost impossible. I believe that, like Koke, they will also stay."

There was more positive transfer news for Atleti as they secured the signing of highly-rated San Lorenzo youngster Angel Correa, with Cerezo stating that "he will be a star in the next few years. People insist on comparing him to Kun Aguero, but I think he is a different kind of player."
