Raphael Varane denies Chelsea link

France head coach Didier Deschamps believes defender Raphael Varane will have an increasingly important role to play for the national team going forward.
Raphael Varane believes Real Madrid need to defend better as a team ahead of their UEFA Champions League meeting with Juventus.

Real Madrid's Raphael Varane denied on Sunday he is contemplating an offer from Chelsea.

"An interest in Chelsea?" Varane told Telefoot. "At this time, I am not thinking about any of that. There is a World Cup to prepare for, this is not the time to discuss these types of questions."

Reports surfaced earlier this month that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho felt Varane would be a good replacement for David Luiz and that Chelsea representatives made overtures to Madrid.

Mourinho made no secret of his admiration for Real Madrid's Raphael Varane, describing him as the "best in the world" earlier this year.

The Portuguese took Varane to Spain in 2011 in an £8 million, six-year deal when he was in charge at the Bernabeu and also tipped the Frenchman to become one of the stars at the World Cup.

"I think he is the best young central defender in the world. Already I think he's the best," Mourinho told Yahoo. "A young player must be somebody who plays in the World Cup for the first time."
