Khedira: I will be fully fit for World Cup

If Germany wish to hoist their fourth World Cup trophy, they will first need to emerge from a loaded Group G.

Germany midfielder Sami Khedira expects to be in good shape in time for the World Cup.

Khedira started for Real Madrid in their Champions League final triumph over Atletico Madrid on Saturday, playing for nearly an hour as he made his third appearance since returning from the ACL injury that had threatened to end his season in November.

He had returned to full training in April and, having been called into the Joachim Loew's preliminary squad for Brazil, is confident he will be ready when Germany begin their campaign against Portugal on June 16.

"I am fit," he told a news conference. "There are minor details I still need to work on. I am taking things step by step. The goal has always been the World Cup, and I was lucky the recovery was quick. I will be at the peak of my powers come June 16."

Khedira, who joined Germany's training camp in South Tyrol late on Monday, added: "I will put in some extra work on my strength and endurance, and will also take part in the team training.

"It has been a long road. I have spent a lot of time in rehab training, working towards the World Cup. The DFB has given me all the support I need and I am really thankful for that. I hope I can pay them back with my performances and with success."

Germany also face the United States and Ghana in Group G in Brazil.
