Henderson: Luis Suarez will be ready

The ESPN FC team give their take on Uruguay's chances in the World Cup without Luis Suarez.

Jordan Henderson fully expects Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez to be fit when Uruguay take on England on June 19.

Suarez is recuperating from knee surgery and, although there are serious doubts as to whether he can recover in time for Uruguay's World Cup opener against Costa Rica on June 15, team doctor Alberto Pan has said he is hopeful he will play some part in Brazil.

Henderson knows England's chances of escaping Group D would be significantly boosted should his clubmate not be available but believes the striker's determination will ensure he is available for that match.

"Everybody is obviously disappointed for Luis, the people that know him," he said, before joking: "Maybe not us because he is a big player for Uruguay.

"I gave him a text to see if he is doing all right and wished him good luck with whatever he has got to have done but, knowing the type of person he is, he is a fighter and I am sure come maybe the first game or the second game in the World Cup he will be ready and raring to go."

The Daily Mirror reports that Suarez has already contacted fellow Liverpool stars to insist he will be ready, but Henderson knows Uruguay offer a threat with or without the 27-year-old.

"It is not just Luis," he said. "Obviously he is outstanding but they've got other good players -- they're a very good team -- so we'll look at different ways and options of how to deal with that and counteract that."

Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani has said Uruguay remain hopeful over Suarez's participation.
