Ancelotti backs Inzaghi for AC Milan job

Filippo Inzaghi played under Carlo Ancelotti while the Italian managed AC Milan between 2001 and 2009.

Carlo Ancelotto believes Filippo Inzaghi will be a hit at AC Milan, with the former Rossoneri and Italy striker reportedly on the verge of being appointed the club's new coach.

- Paul: Inzaghi's mooted appointment another risk
- 'Ancelotti's future never in doubt'

Inzaghi reportedly spent nearly four hours in talks with club president Silvio Berlusconi and general manager Adriano Galliani on Monday night. It is thought he was offered the Milan coach's job, with Clarence Seedorf set to be dismissed after only four months in the job.

Milan, who finished eighth last season, have yet to confirm the 40-year-old's appointment, but Ancelotti -- who managed Inzaghi to two Champions League triumphs between 2001 and 2009 -- believes his former player would be the right choice at the San Siro.

"He's got extraordinary enthusiasm," said the newly crowned Champions League winner at an awards ceremony in Rome. "He has great desire and has already gained experience coaching the youth team.

"He's definitely got all the characteristics to take over and, if he does become Milan coach, then I wish him all the best of luck."

Should the change in the Milan hotseat be confirmed, Seedorf will be removed after just four months in charge, and despite signing a two-and-a-half-year contract in January.

Berlusconi refused to back the former Milan midfielder earlier in May, and Ancelotti believes the Dutchman's only fault was his lack of experience.

"Everybody has the characteristics to be a coach, but nobody has experience to start with," said Ancelotti, who has won three Champions Leagues and picked up trophies in four countries -- Italy, England, France and Spain.

"You can only get that over time. A coach needs to have a good knowledge of the game, and then you've got to learn how to put it into practice and prepare things as a coach.

"That's the most complicated part and you've got to study it because nobody has the knowledge of how to plan and prepare at the very beginning."
