Claudio Pizarro is to remain with Bayern Munich next season after signing a new contract until 2015.

Pizarro, 35, struck 10 goals in 17 appearances for the German champions this season and has done enough to convince the club to hand him a one-year extension.

"I am very proud to be able to play for FC Bayern next season," he told the club's official website. "There's no better club in the world in my opinion. This is an unbelievable group of players, we really enjoy it together -- and we intend to go for it again next season."

The Peru international is in his second spell in Munich, having spent six years with the club from 2001 to 2007 before rejoining in 2012 after spells with Chelsea and Werder Bremen.

He has scored a total of 176 goals in 370 games in the Bundesliga since first arriving in the country with Bremen in 1999 -- more than any other foreign player -- and will now have the chance to add to his tally.

"This season, Claudio has once again shown his goal-scoring instinct and his importance for the team," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "We are delighted that we can continue to bank on him."

Pizarro is set to provide back-up for Robert Lewandowski, who finally completes his move from Borussia Dortmund this summer after finishing the season as the Bundesliga's leading goal-scorer.

Croatia international Mario Mandzukic is widely expected to leave the Allianz Arena this summer, with national team coach Niko Kovac urging the striker to resolve his future before the World Cup begins.
