Kroos: United speculation not an issue

ESPN FC analyst Janusz Michallik breaks down why Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos will be a great fit for Manchester United.

Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has said talk of an impending move to Manchester United is "speculation" and "not an issue."

Mueller dismisses United move

On Thursday, reports suggested the Germany international would soon be on his way to Old Trafford, with the Daily Mail claiming new manager Louis van Gaal had given the green light to a 24.7 million euro deal put in place under predecessor David Moyes.

Other media outlets claimed United had made significant advances in their pursuit of Kroos, who is moving into the final year of his contract with the runaway Bundesliga winners.

But hours later, a club source told ESPN FC that Van Gaal -- who had coached Kroos at Bayern -- had called off the move.

Kroos told Bild: "There has been a lot of speculation -- but Manchester is not and has never been an issue."

He said he needed to "accept and respect" the fact that Bayern would not increase their contract offer to him but added: "I'd like to think that I'll play for Bayern next year -- and now I want to fully concentrate on the World Cup."

Speaking to Bayern's official website, Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "As I've always said, our aim is to agree a contract extension, and that still applies. If we can't, we'll have to think about other options."

Earlier, Bayern president Karl Hopfner had told kicker the club would not be upping their offer, explaining: "We will not overstep certain financial limits."
