Sam Allardyce to stay at West Ham

Sam Allardyce will remain in charge at West Ham United, but will face some challenges.

West Ham United have confirmed manager Sam Allardyce will remain in charge for the 2014-15 season.

Sam Allardyce might feel he has been let down by experienced players such as the banned Kevin Nolan during this time of need.
Allardyce took over at Upton Park in 2011.

Allardyce's position had been uncertain after a 13th-placed finish in the Premier League did not appease some fans, who demanded more attacking football.

However, the Hammers are to stand by Allardyce, but that the side aim to "provide more entertainment next season."

Thorne: End of season report: West Ham

A statement on the club's official website read: "The board and Allardyce have held lengthy and detailed discussions on the club's direction, values and philosophy and a positive way forward for next season has been agreed.

"After listening to feedback from supporters, the board have insisted on improvements to the set-up of the playing and backroom staff to ensure the team provides more entertainment next season.

"The manager has agreed to recruit a new attacking coach to complement the existing coaching set-up as well as an overhaul of the club's scouting and recruitment operation that will see the board have a greater involvement in the players who are signed, as the board will once again be investing considerable funds into the club this summer.

"The club have made clear that they want to see progression on the pitch and at least a top-10 finish as a result."

Former Bolton and Blackburn boss Allardyce has been in charge of the Hammers since 2011, leading the club to promotion from the Championship the next year as they beat Blackpool in the playoff final.

Reacting to West Ham's decision on Tuesday, Allardyce said: "I look forward to taking the club forward and improving the squad for next season to try and achieve the plans we have set out in our very productive meeting last week."
