Conte to return as Juventus manager

Juventus manager Antonio Conte was delighted after his side broke the record for the highest number of points as they won their third title in a row.

Juventus have announced their coach Antonio Conte will be remaining in charge of the club next season.

Rzouki: Juve's record haul

Conte had expressed doubts about whether he could take the club any further after winning three straight Scudettos, but after a series of meetings with the Turin club's management on Monday, he has agreed to fulfil the final year of his contract.

The Bianconeri confirmed the news with an announcement via Twitter on Monday night, although there was no elaboration on what had been discussed and agreed during an intense day of discussions, other than that Conte would still be coach in 2014/15.

Conte first met with club president Andrea Agnelli at a secret location before being joined by the club's general manager Beppe Marotta in the evening. There is as yet no word as to whether their attempts to convince the successful coach to extend his contract have been successful, but Juve's fans will at least welcome the announcement that Conte is not leaving this summer.

Juve set a new Europe-wide top-flight points record of 102 with a 3-0 win over Cagliari at the weekend, a result which saw them end the campaign with a 17-point advantage over second-placed Roma, who themselves led Napoli by seven points.

However, their elimination from the Champions League in the group stage and defeat to Benfica in the semifinals of the Europa League cast doubts over Conte's future with the coach admitting that their struggles in Europe had got him thinking.

Monday's announcement means Conte will give another crack at the Champions League another, although new signings are likely this summer to help in that undertaking, as well as in the quest for a fourth straight Serie A crown.
