Fenerbahce set to sign Diego Ribas

FC's Steve Nicol asserts that Atletico Madrid won the title in the manner which they played the whole season.

Diego Ribas could be the first player to leave Atletico Madrid's La Liga title-winning squad, with the Brazilian reportedly close to a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

Diego Ribas appears set to leave Atletico Madrid this summer.

Atletico sealed a first title win in 18 years by drawing 1-1 at Barcelona's Camp Nou on Saturday, and face Real Madrid in next Saturday's Champions League final in Lisbon.

However, the cash-strapped club are expected to lose at least some of their stars to richer clubs this summer, with speculation persisting over the futures of Diego Costa, Thibaut Courtois, Koke, Diego Godin and Filipe Luis.

Fener announced via their official website at the weekend that former Juventus and Wolfsburg playmaker Diego, who had been linked with a move to Premier League side Arsenal in recent weeks, was in talks to join the newly crowned Turkish champions.

AS also quoted Fenerbahce's vice-president Abdullah Kigili as saying: "We will announce the signing of a No. 10 on Tuesday. This agreement will be announced soon to the Turkish Stock Exchange."

Kigili added in the Turkish media at the weekend that "other transfers will be finalised within 48 hours."

Diego, 29, rejoined Atletico on a short-term deal in January after an agreement was reached to end his contract at Wolfsburg six months early. The former Brazil international was not a regular starter for Diego Simeone over the title run-in, but did score a spectacular 30-yard goal during Atletico's Champions League quarterfinal tie against Barcelona.
