Ibra hopes to see Zidane at Bordeaux

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told Canal+ "it would be exciting" to see Zinedine Zidane return to French football as coach of Bordeaux.

Zidane out to prove worth

Zinedine Zidane has been tipped to take a managerial role in Ligue 1.
Zinedine Zidane has been tipped to take a managerial role in Ligue 1.

Les Girondins' president, Jean-Louis Triaud, reportedly travelled to Madrid last week to meet Zidane, 48, with a view to appointing the former French international as coach in place of Francis Gillot, who revealed on Saturday evening he would be stepping down at the season's end.

Currently assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, Zidane, who has also been linked to the coaching job at Monaco, insisted in L'Equipe last week that he had had no contact with any side.

However, Ibrahimovic said French football would benefit should the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner take up his first senior coaching role at the Stade Chaban-Delmas, the stadium in which Zidane first came to prominence as a player.

"I think everyone would be happy, not only me," the Sweden international said. "He's a great name, and as a player he doesn't need experience, he has that already. He knows a lot of things about football. It would be exciting if he came. Given the situation, it would be a good thing if he returned to Ligue 1."
