Juve beat Roma, Milan hopes fade

FC's Gab Marcotti breaks down the chances that Italian defender faces discipline after elbowing a Roma player in the face.

Pablo Daniel Osvaldo's first Serie A goal for Juventus secured a 1-0 victory over his former employers Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Paul: Milan hopes fade
Inter Milan 4-1 Lazio
Hellas Verona 2-2 Udinese

The Bianconeri, who were crowned champions last weekend, appeared content to hold Roma at arm's length during a bad-tempered encounter in the capital city.

Roma were determined to get some sort of revenge on Juve but instead watched in horror as Osvaldo -- the Italy striker sold to Southampton in August and sent to Turin on loan in January -- scored four minutes into stoppage time.

AC Milan suffered a setback in their bid to qualify for the Europa League next season as they fell to a last-gasp 2-1 defeat to local rivals Atalanta.

An own goal from Gianpaolo Bellini gave the Rossoneri the lead early in the second half, but a second-half penalty from German Denis brought the Nerazzurri level at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri D'Italia. Milan pushed for a winner, but it was Atalanta substitute Franco Brienza who found it for the Bergamo side with the last kick of the game.

The result was overshadowed, however, as a banana was thrown at Milan's Kevin Constant.

Napoli carried on from where they left off in the final of the Coppa Italia final last weekend, beating Sampdoria 5-2 to prove they still have plenty of motivation at the end of the season.

Although Rafael Benitez's men can no longer catch second-placed Roma, and were already certain of finishing third, they nevertheless turned on the style in Genoa.

Duvan Zapata put the visitors in front before Lorenzo Insigne made it two. Eder pulled a goal back for the Blucerchiati, but Jose Callejon soon restored Napoli's two-goal advantage. Marek Hamsik and an own goal from Shkodran Mustafi gave the Azzurri a comfortable lead before Pawel Wszolek grabbed a late consolation.

Gonzalo Bergessio's late winner was not enough to keep Catania in Serie A as results elsewhere relegated both the Sicilians and Bologna.

Catania arrived at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara knowing victory over their hosts would steer them towards safety -- as long as Chievo and Sassuolo both failed to win.

Luciano Monzon's first-half opener was cancelled out by Bologna's Archimede Morleo with 10 minutes remaining, but Catania thought they had finally done enough to survive when Bergessio scored at the death to settle a 2-1 win.

And they would have taken their fight to the last day had Chievo not triumphed 1-0 at Cagliari while Sassuolo were clinching a thrilling 4-2 success against Genoa to secure their own future in the top flight.

Fiorentina made sure they will play Europa League football next season after Juan Cuadrado's goal saw them claim a 1-0 win that secured fourth place and relegated Livorno.

Colombia international Cuadrado scored a follow-up tap in just before the hour mark at the Stadio Armando Picchi to notch the only goal of the game against La Viola's Tuscan rivals. Livorno finished the game with 10 men after Miguel Borja was shown a red card for a foul on Alberto Aquilani in the third minute of stoppage time.

The pursuit of the final Europa League place will go to the final day of the season, though, after rivals Torino and Parma cancelled each other out to draw 1-1 in Turin.

It was a straight shoot-out for sixth place and an overdue return to continental competition for both clubs on Sunday afternoon, and Italy's leading goalscorer Ciro Immobile drew first blood for the hosts just before half-time, but Parma recovered to level through Jonathan Biabiany after Antonio Cassano's penalty was saved, and Torino's main threat was removed from the equation for the final phases after Immobile saw red for diving.

Defender Alessandro Lucarelli had already been dismissed for Parma but the visitors managed to hold on.
