• Mangan: Progress and pain

The France international, 28, becomes the eighth first-team player to commit his future to the Gunners following Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott, Wojciech Szczesny, Serge Gnabry, Gedion Zelalem and his defensive partner Per Mertesacker.

Koscielny and Mertesacker have kept 15 clean sheets in 31 Premier League appearances this season helping Arsenal to qualify for the Champions League.

The former Lorient player, who joined Arsenal in 2010 and has gone on to make 163 appearances for the club to date, spoke of his pride at extending his four-year stay at the Emirates.

He told Arsenal's official website: "I am very proud to have reached agreement with the club on a new contract. I have enjoyed four great years at Arsenal already, and I look forward to continuing to help the team in the years to come."

Manager Arsene Wenger added: "Laurent has proven himself to be an outstanding player since joining us in 2010 and has showed his quality once again this season. I am delighted he has decided to commit his future to the club."
