Rodgers: Lallana a terrific young talent

Man City may have all but won the league, but Liverpool are still kicking and screaming down the home straight, and Anthony Richardson & Ian Fiveankles have no idea how it'll turn out.

LIVERPOOL -- Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says Adam Lallana is a "terrific young talent" -- while refusing to be drawn on whether he is a transfer target.

Southampton captain Lallana, 25, is being heavily linked with a 20 million pounds summer move to Anfield as Rodgers looks to bolster his squad for a Champions League campaign next season.

The midfielder, who has three England caps, is among a number of likely targets for Liverpool's boss.

Both the Reds and Southampton have played down suggestions that a move is imminent, although neither club have dismissed the idea.

Rodgers only went as far as to say that reports linking Lallana with Liverpool were "speculation," rather than untrue, while Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday that there had been no official approach for the player as of yet.

Asked about his interest in Lallana -- a boyhood Everton fan -- Rodgers said: "I saw something on that yesterday. I'm sure you could respect that I'd never talk about another player at another club.

"It's purely speculation. Adam's a terrific young talent, but for us, there's always speculation about top young players."

Lallana, named Southampton's Player of the Year on Thursday, is a strong contender for a place in England's World Cup squad, to be named on Monday.
