Fernandinho discovered call-up online

The FC guys discuss Manuel Pellegrini's success in his first season as Manchester City manager.

Fernandinho has revealed he had to look on the internet to discover he had earned a place in Brazil's World Cup squad.

Vickery: No surprises in Brazil's World Cup squad

The Manchester City player was named in Luiz Felipe Scolari's 23-man party for the tournament in their home country but neither manager Scolari nor the Brazilian FA contacted the 29-year-old to let him know.

Fernandinho left Shakhtar Donetsk for the higher-profile Premier League last summer in part because of his desire to earn an international recall.

And the midfielder, who had not been capped for two years, returned to the Brazil team with a goal in March's 5-0 win over South Africa.

"Being called up for the Brazil World Cup squad was the news I've been waiting for," said Fernandinho, who has won six caps.

"There was no telephone call, I looked on the internet. I saw what I was looking for. After that I spoke with my family and friends -- they were so happy for me. They congratulated me on the call-up."

Fernandinho hopes to complete a dream week by helping Premier League leaders City win their second title in three years.

They only need a point against West Ham on Sunday and Fernandinho is trying not to ignore the World Cup until his club campaign is over.

He added: "It's a big thing for me but I cannot start thinking about it until after Sunday. That's when I may start to feel emotional about it. Maybe on Sunday night or Monday will be the time for me to celebrate my call-up and the league title. For now I need to be calm and concentrate on Sunday's game. After that I can do anything.

"I hope it's going to be the best summer -- one I will always remember."

Fernandinho, who had been an automatic choice for City, has only been a substitute in their last three games and he explained: "I have a little problem with my leg, a small injury. So we've been trying to manage it so I play in the right situations. We'll see how we get on in the next few days and if I can start on Sunday."
