FA commission findings to be revealed

Greg Dyke will reveal the findings of the Football Association's England Commission on Thursday.

Fans hold up a banner in response to FA chairman Greg Dyke's stated aim of winning the World Cup in 2022.
Dyke wants to revitalise the England team.

FA chairman Dyke set up the commission last year with the intention of addressing the lack of opportunities available to English players in the Premier League and focusing on the future of the England team.

The FA has said that the findings and recommendations made by the body will be announced at Wembley on Thursday afternoon.

The commission has already sparked controversy with plans for a new competition for B teams for the leading Premier League and Championship clubs.

The plan would see the new division placed between League Two and the Conference, while other proposals would see the number of home-grown players required in league clubs' 25-man squads increased from the current minimum of eight.

The B-team proposal would involve the 24 clubs with a top-rated academy but there are concerns that it would disrupt the pyramid system that sees clubs promoted and relegated through the divisions.

Conference and League Two clubs are expected to oppose under-21 sides from wealthy Premier League clubs competing with them for league places.

They may choose to argue that a breakthrough for young English players is already beginning to happen, with Liverpool's Raheem Sterling, Southampton's Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez and Luke Shaw and Everton's Ross Barkley having shone this season.

Dyke is keen to encourage debate about the state of the national game before the World Cup begins next month.

He wants to see the England team reach the Euro 2020 semi-finals and win the 2022 World Cup.
