Rooney: England can win World Cup

Wayne Rooney has said he feels England can win the World Cup in Brazil, adding: "We have to believe, even if no one else will."

Roy Hodgson hopes Wayne Rooney will become England's all-time leading scorer.
Rooney is upbeat about England's chances.

Wilshere 'polished' for Brazil

The Manchester United forward insisted that Roy Hodgson's side could shine despite some pundits predicting that they will not get through a group that pits them against Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Asked during a question and answer session for Samsung whether England could lift the World Cup trophy, Rooney said simply: "I think we can."

He said facing Uruguay's Liverpool star Luis Suarez -- who has scored 31 goals for the Anfield club this season -- in the second group game would be a huge challenge but added that he believed ex-Old Trafford hero Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal captain, was the world's finest player.

Rooney also picked Ronaldo as the star he would most like to bring to Manchester United, but could not choose between Ronaldo and Paul Scholes as the best player he had worked with because they had different strengths.

"Scholesy controlled the game and passed the ball around, but in terms of winning games it's Cristiano Ronaldo," he said.

He also hinted that he could follow Old Trafford colleague Ryan Giggs, United's caretaker boss, into coaching and added: "I could be a manager at some point.

"It would depend on circumstances in my life and what chapter of my life I was at with my family and which club it would be."
