Inter stand closed after racist chants

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol recaps the final Milan derby of this campaign.

Inter Milan have had the Curva Nord at the San Siro closed for their final Serie A home match of the season after racist chants at Mario Balotelli and insults of Naples during the 1-0 derby defeat to AC Milan on Sunday.

The Lega Serie A decision means the Nerazzurri will have to play without the backing of their most vociferous fans against Lazio on Saturday. They have also been ordered to pay a fine of 50,000 euros.

"Supporters of the club aimed shouts and chants of an unequivocally racially discriminatory nature towards the footballer Mario Balotelli in the first, fourth, 18th, 26th and 33rd minutes while, in the 39th minute of the first half, they chanted a song discriminatory for territorial reasons of Naples," a Lega Serie A statement said.

"The chants emanated from the second tier, the area which is home to the Inter fans."

A week ago, Inter were ordered to close a smaller part of the San Siro for their next two games after discriminatory chants during their match against Napoli. That sanction has now been widened due to the repeat misbehaviour of their fans on Sunday.
