Jerome Boateng banned for two games

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has been handed a two-match ban after slapping Hamburg midfielder Kerem Demirbay, the DFB has announced.

Schaaf: Bayern overwhelm HSV

The Germany international was sent off in the final minutes of Bayern's 4-1 win at Hamburg on Saturday and club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said he would be given a significant fine for his "brainless" action.

The DFB disciplinary tribunal has now ruled that he also have to serve a two-game suspension, which will rule him out of Bayern's final Bundesliga game of the season, against Stuttgart on Saturday, as well as the opening match of next season.

However, he remains eligible for the DFB-Pokal final with Borussia Dortmund on May 17 as Bayern seek to defend their trophy.

Boateng was the third Bayern player to slap an opponent in the face in recent weeks. Rafinha was sent off in the dying minutes of Bayern's 3-0 defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund on April 12, while France international Franck Ribery escaped punishment when he struck Dani Carvajal in the 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal at the end of the month.

Neither player was fined by the club.
