Ibrahimovic: PSG could have won UCL

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told RMC he will not consider his career a failure should he miss out on winning the Champions League, though admitted Paris Saint-Germain felt they could have picked up European football's biggest prize this season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic shouty PSG
Zlatan Ibrahimovic's injury was a massive blow to PSG's Champions League ambitons.

Johnson: Blanc to stay?

Injured in PSG's 3-1 quarterfinal first-leg win over Chelsea, Ibrahimovic watched the second leg from the sidelines as Laurent Blanc's men succumbed to a late Demba Ba goal that took the Premier League side through to the semifinals at the French champions' expense last month.

It means the Sweden international, who has won league titles in three different European countries, will have to wait yet another season to try and claim a Champions League winner's medal.

However, he insists it is the media -- and not himself -- who is obsessed about the conspicuous gap in his trophy cabinet.

"I hope to win it. But if I stop playing football tomorrow, I won't say to myself: 'I didn't win the Champions League, and my career is a failure.' On the contrary, my career has been fantastic. I've enjoyed it, and I continue to do so.

"My favourite player was Ronaldo, the Brazilian. He didn't win the Champions League either. That's why I'm rather relaxed.

"We had a good chance this year. When we beat Leverkusen, confidence was sky-high. The motivation was even greater. After beating Chelsea 3-1 at home, we saw an opportunity to go all the way. If Chelsea had been better than us, I would have said, 'OK, we had no chance at all, the best team won.' But in the return leg, we didn't play in the same way, we weren't the same team. It's experience, or something else, that makes the difference."

Having agreed to a one-year extension last summer, adding to the three-year deal he signed when moving from AC Milan in 2012, Ibrahimovic sees his future at the Parc des Princes. He also expects the club's wealthy and ambitious Qatari owners to invest yet more in the coming transfer market to reinforce the squad at Blanc's disposal, and improve their chances in Europe.

"I'm still in form, and if the head is still there, I will be here for another two years. If the club still wants me and if all France wants me, then I'll be here. You're not going to get rid of me that easily," Ibrahimovic, who is on course to finish as Ligue 1's leading scorer for the second successive season, stated.

"With the way the club thinks, I think they are going to move this summer and bring someone in. Perhaps even more than just one person. They want to grow still more, that the dream becomes reality as quickly as possible. Everything can happen in Paris. In two years, they have taken the team very high. They are going to continue, because they have big ambitions."
