Phil Jones accepts fans' booing

Phil Jones admitted he can understand why some of the Manchester United supporters booed their team in Saturday's 1-0 defeat against Sunderland.

United suffered their seventh home league defeat of the campaign -- their most in a season for 40 years -- as Sebastian Larsson gave the Sunderland their first win at Old Trafford for 40 years.

And defender Jones rued United's inability to build on their 4-0 win over Norwich and shared the fans' frustrations.

"Yeah, of course," he said. "They have had a difficult season. It has not been easy for them, especially at Old Trafford. You can understand that totally.

"You look at the away games we have played this season, we are up there on form, but the home form for whatever reason has not been as good. It's caught us out and that's something next season we really nail down and work on."

The versatile Jones accepted that a struggle for consistency has been a familiar lament at Old Trafford this year.

He added: "It was disappointing. It's the story of our season isn't it? You win one, you can't carry the form on. But I thought we played all right in decent patches of the game.

"I thought we controlled the majority of the second half. We didn't really have that final cutting edge. That is what was missing. This is a setback and we are obviously disappointed."
