Giroud: Signings will make me stronger

The FC crew discuss Arsene Wenger's decision to stay with Arsenal beyond 2014.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud believes he can raise his game if the club add to their strikeforce this summer.

Olivier Giroud celebrates being back in the side with a goal.
Olivier Giroud has had a prolific campaign but was left out of Arsenal's clash with Bayern Munich.

• Mangan: Ozil & Ramsey key
• McNicholas: Aiming higher

Giroud, 27, has enjoyed a more productive second season in London with 20 goals in all competitions so far.

However, the former Montpellier forward believes he can improve further -- especially if the Gunners add more firepower in the next transfer window.

"I feel that I've progressed and I know the Premier League better," he told BeIN Sports.

"The goal was to do better than last season and that’s good but I know that I can improve again. I feel that I'm moving up a notch year by year and I think that I can try to go even higher."

The France international says that some fresh faces can help him to develop further, and he believes that a top club needs several options up front if they are to challenge on all fronts.

"I see my future here -- that’s my desire in any case," he continued.

"I'm expecting that a forward might be signed. The competition could also help me raise my game I think."

Giroud was left out of Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich in February for youngster Yaya Sanogo, and he admitted that being dropped for a spell had been tough.

"Every attacker goes through bad patches -- you can’t question yourself too much. Did I feel threatened? No," he said.

"The coach maybe gave me a breather because he felt that some games on the bench would do me good. That was maybe the case.

"Especially against Bayern, it was difficult to hear but you always have to accept the decisions of the coach."

Giroud said that winning the FA Cup would make it a "very good season" for Arsenal, although he feels that securing Champions League football by finishing fourth is vital.

The Gunners can go four points clear of Everton in the battle for fourth place with a win against Newcastle on Monday, and Giroud stated: "There are three league matches left that are all as important as the cup final."
