Fitness boost for Daniel Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge is optimistic of returning from injury when Liverpool host his former club Chelsea this weekend at Anfield.

Daniel Sturridge has told the Mirror he is hopeful of making his return from injury when Liverpool host his former club Chelsea on Sunday.

Kelly: We've been here before but forgotten what it's like

Sturridge missed the Reds' 3-2 win at Norwich last weekend with a hamstring problem that was not considered to be long-term.

The England striker is winning his race to be fit in time for Liverpool's meeting with Chelsea, as Brendan Rodgers' table-topping side look to make it 12 league wins in a row.

Sturridge said: "Hopefully this weekend I'll be back." And when asked whether Rodgers would select him, the forward added: "I'm not too sure if he'll play me or not. We'll have to see."

If picked by Rodgers, Sturridge will face the club he left for 12 million pounds in January 2013, and he was asked if he would celebrate if he scored against his former side.

"I would like to show respect to my former club, but if I were to come on and score in the last minute I'm going to be on a mad one, aren't I?" he said. "I don't want to -- but I don't know if I could control myself if that happened."
