Mazzarri to remain in Inter hotseat

Walter Mazzarri will still be coach of Inter Milan next season with club president Erick Thohir keen for continuity at the club.

Walter Mazzarri is unhappy about recent comparisons between Inter and AC Milan.
Walter Mazzarri's future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks.

• Wilson: Deal or no deal?
• Mancini not returning to Inter
• Dzeko, Torres, Morata wanted

Mazzarri signed a contract until 2015 when he took charge of the Nerazzurri last season, but there had been some doubts raised about his future with Inter failing to qualify for the Champions League. They are still a few wins away from securing qualification for the Europa League but Thohir insists Mazzarri is still the right man to take Inter forward.

"If you want to have a solid club, then you need to have a process and all too often in football, changes are too quick to be made," the Indonesian said at a news conference.

"That is not what I want. Mazzarri will have next year as well to build a team. We are very focused on the remainder of this season and we hope the team can keep the balance they have now found."

Mazzarri can already look forward to adding Nemanja Vidic to his squad for next season while Thohir has announced that a new striker will also be arriving in the summer. Some players will inevitably leave too, although not necessarily Mauro Icardi, who is reportedly being followed by Real and Atletico Madrid.

"I want to build a career with Inter," the 21-year-old told Italy's Sky Sport. "If other clubs want me, then that's up to other people to decide. I just want to carry on doing what I've done this year. I'm scoring goals with Inter and if I go to the World Cup, then I'll be even happier."

With Mazzarri his master for another season at least, Icardi has even more of a reason not to leave.

"I've learnt a great deal from him," Icardi added. "We're approaching the end of the season, but he never stops trying to teach me new things. Things are going well with him. He's shown a bit more faith in me recently, fielding me more often, and all I have to do is what an attacker is paid for, which is score goals."
