Draw not enough for Jose Mourinho

ESPN FC's Martin Ainstein breaks down the good and the bad from the scoreless draw between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho insisted he was not satisfied with Tuesday's goalless draw in Madrid, even though the tactical make-up of his side appeared to be designed to secure that result.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid played to a frustrating 0-0 stalemate in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.

The Blues managed just two shots on target while staying back to stop the Atletico attack.

"It wasn't the result I wanted before kick-off, but I didn't want to start the second leg a goal down either," Mouinho said. "A goalless draw is not a positive result for a team playing the second leg at home, but it will do.

Mourinho was pleased with how Chelsea's defence, which lost captain John Terry and Peter Cech to injuries, stopped Atletico's attack.

"Atletico were frustrated, whereas usually they are the ones who frustrate other teams," Mourinho said. "My side had a solid performance, we played in a way that irritated them. Atletico Madrid beat Milan and Barcelona here, while we were able to control the game."

Mourinho also defended the performance of striker Fernando Torres, who received a warm reception on his return to former club Atletico Madrid.

"It was difficult for him, as we were playing without someone who could inspire him," Mourinho said. "I had told my players not to keep too much possession, but to move it wide. Atletico press really hard, so I told them to play wide. Torres played a game of great sacrifice."
