Galliani wants Europa League football

AC Milan general manager Adriano Galliani wants to make the signings of Adel Taarabt and Adil Rami permanent, while he is hoping the club can secure a place in next season’s Europa League.

Paul: Milan roll on

Milan recorded their fourth Serie A win in a row on Sunday as they defeated Catania 1-0 to push them to within three points off the final European spot.

And Galliani says he would love to see a difficult season finished off with qualification for the Europa League, even if it could be more of a financial drain than an added source of income.

"We would have to cancel our preseason tournament in the U.S. if we finish sixth since we would have to play in the qualifying rounds, but we're keen on making it," he told Sky Sport Italia.

The loss of income from not appearing in a prestigious preseason tournament in the U.S. could eclipse the funds Milan could potentially earn from playing in the Europa League, but Galliani insists sporting ambition comes first.

"Of course we want to qualify," he added. "The revenue may be inferior to the Champions League, but let's not look for excuses."

Qualifying for Europe would also give the club more chance of signing Taarabt and Rami, who have both settled in well at Milan and played their part in a recent revival since arriving on loan from Queens Park Rangers and Valencia respectively.

"Just don't go telling QPR that we want to sign him [Taarabt] because the price is already fixed, but there's no chance of us negotiating a lower one if they know how well he's doing,” Galliani said.

"The same goes for Rami and Valencia. Don't go telling people that they're playing well for us."

With five games of the season remaining, Milan find themselves five points behind city rivals Inter, who are fifth. Should Fiorentina remain inside the top five, sixth will also be enough to qualify for the Europa League given that the Viola are in the Coppa Italia final.

"We're just three points behind now, but there are so many teams in there and it's best that we don't make any calculations," Sunday’s match-winner against Catania, Riccardo Montolivo, told Milan Channel.

"All we know is that we've got to try to win all of our remaining matches. It's going to be hard, but we believe we can do it."

The Rossoneri have Roma and Inter coming up, as well as games against Sassuolo and Livorno -- two sides still fighting the threat of relegation.
