Pellegrini: Title race not over yet

Steve Nicol and Alejandro Moreno discuss how big of a blow it would be for Manchester City to lose Yaya Toure.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists that Sunday's 3-2 defeat against Liverpool does not mean the end of their Premier League title challenge.

David Silva forces Glen Johnson to score an own goal.

- Jolly: Three Things

Liverpool have a seven-point lead over City, although Pellegrini's men have played two games less. Liverpool still have to face Chelsea, while four of City's six remaining games are at home and only Everton away would be considered a tough test for the big-spending side.

"If we win our two games in hand we will be a point behind Liverpool, who still have to play Chelsea. The title does not finish today," Pellegrini told BBC Sport. "We are still going to fight. A lot of things will happen between now and the end of the season."

City were stunned in the first half and went down 2-0, but rallied in the second to come back to 2-2 and had a glorious chance to go ahead through David Silva before Philippe Coutinho latched onto a miskick from Vincent Kompany to strike the winner.

"It was a very pretty match as it was two teams who like to attack. We deserved a better result. We are very unlucky," Pellegrini added. "We played very well second half when there was only one team on the pitch and we had clear chances to win the game.

"They also played very well, especially the first 20 minutes. Normally, Vincent Kompany is great defender but today he made a mistake.

"There was just one team inside the pitch in the second half. There was a clear penalty when Martin Skrtel had a handball but I don't think the result today was because of the referee, who had a good game."

City lost influential midfielder Yaya Toure to injury midway through the first half, which may cast doubt on his participation in the rest of the season.

"Yaya has an injury in his hamstring and will be assessed (on Monday),'' the Chilean said.
